The increased demand for green vehicles is spilling over to the rental
car counter, where many more drivers will soon be able to choose a
hybrid vehicle.
National Car Rental is a rental car company based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
National was founded by 24 independent rental car agents on August 27,
1947. It has grown from 60 locations in the United States in 1947 to over
2000 locations worldwide as of 2005. Since 1987 it has marketed the
Emerald Club to its renters, which was the first such program in the car
rental industry.
The original Formula Junior rules called for the cars to be powered by
production based engines of 1000cc with a 360kg (792-lb) car or
1100cc with a 400kg (880-lb) car. The block, head and cylinders had to
come from a production car; single or twin overhead camshafts,
limited-slip differentials and a modification to the number of main bearings
were all forbidden.
The brakes and transmission had to be production
based, although the number of gears could be changed inside a
production gearbox casing. Roll bars were also mandatory;
this was the first racing class to require these safety items.
